Born and raised in Venezuela, Yosuzi, meaning “cactus flower” in the Guajiro native language, spent her childhood immersed in the conventional ceremonies, narratives and artist projects of her ancestral Guajiro heritage. Yosuzi hats are created from 100% Iraka palm hay, reaped from the Iraka palm, and finished with elaborate, hand woven clippings. Each cap requires about 8 hours weaving. Made with an angled weaving method unique to the tribe, the hats’ patterns and symbols symbolize the spiritual knowledge of Yosuzi’s ancestors.
